We have a state coalition government that is Anti Greyhound Industry remember !
The only chance of an early termination of lease / payout is a Labor win at the next election !

Popular decisions to remove the track from Wentworth Park transcends all political parties. They will do whatever the people of the City of Sydney and developers with vested interests want, to gain votes, profit and power.

The question is how much is willing to be paid to remove the greyhounds..

In the meantime, GBOTA owns a land asset that is zoned for Greyhound Racing in Appin.

Thats the key point. With the new fish markets due for completion by 2024. You can be assured, developers are circling and heavily lobbing government to continue with the redevelopment of that whole precinct. No way either party want to wait til 2027 to get their hands on Wenty, nor wait subsequent years to develop and complete project(s). Plenty of bargaining power, if done with the industries best interest at heart....

Approximately 50% of Land in N.S.W. is Crown Land yet the N.S.W. government has nothing to offer "yeah right" !

My solution doesn't include the NSW GBOTA !

Too much BAD FORM for mine !

A Greenfield site not located in a flood zone would be a good start !

A Track with no corner starts
A Straight Track / Drag / loam 2 distances at least up a Hill preferably !
Sprint Lanes if possible set up with a gap between them, not like the stuff up at Richmond !

I agree with you on that wish list but being the realist i am i am wondering how a project like that which by my guesstimations you wont gwt much change from $15m (land included) is going to be paid for

Just at least give me that answer Mark instead of fluffing around the issue

I'm not fluffing around the issue Sandro !

I don't see an Anti Greyhound Industry Government paying for an early exit from W.P. when they can sit back let the lease run out and pay ZERO !

How much is GWIC costing this Anti Greyhound Industry Government per year to run Sandro ?

Greyhound racing lost all hope back in the 80s when the moved outa hpk
There will be no chance in future to have another city track
The best they will get will be Richmond
There was plenty of old trial tracks that could have been brought to develop into a racing track
Maybe Glengarry could be some hope if purchased

An Anti Greyhound Industry Government is paying $15 million a year to run GWIC !
They are not Anti Horses, only Greyhounds !
Gee i hope a Labor Government wins the next state election for they are not Anti Greyhound Industry and would be far more interested in seeing the industry survive !

The running of GWIC and the payout of the WP lease are two separate and distinct issues

Labor is coupled with the Greens these days...I prefer the devil we know than the one we don't

This is where we need to be and something official should be proposed to government ASAP. To then see how fair dinkum they are about seeing us as a proper recognised sport/industry in their eyes....

EXTERNAL LINK

But at the same time, the trots have shown great forward thinking at the inevitable urban sprawl over the next 50-100 years and have moved to areas, ready and waiting to come to them in Menangle and Melton.

The spotlight is now well and truly on the level of quality in the people running this sport.

Talk about short memories !

Thats 7 years ago

We were sold out by 2 greedy politicians and the horse racing lobby.

Those 2 clowns are gone and horse racing is now well and truly under the watchful eye of the Anti- Racing brigade, so they need to behave as well

To be honest I owuldn't trust any of them as far as I can throw them

But you would trust a party and place the industrys future in one that automatically gives its preference to the Greens.

Now who is joking LOL

I don't think either party is or the people who lurk in the background

But one thing I do know is that I would go nowhere near a party that has the Greens as one of their factions helping them form policy.

But then again it could be a case of keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

A lot depends on which side is running the show in either party

We need to support the Shooters and Fishers to help keep the balance from tipping over the edge in each party. They are about the only ones who I would give a vote to

Its a very dirty game there pal. Deals are there to be made.

Doesn't matter, Labor was in charge in the ACT. Thats a major worry.

Because the Greens were already involved in their party it was easier for it to be banned. It became an internal decision.

They are tarred with the same brush pal and from what I have seen nothing has changed with that party, in fact the Greens are even stronger within them

While I don't trust the Coalition, they have to go outside their party line to do a deal with the Greens which is how Baird/Grant got found out

The industry is not that exposed. It will always be joined at the hip with the other racing codes. Its safe in my book. The whole Baird BS, was using the antis as the front to get Wenty, just as the nearby Powerhouse Museum for developers.

The lack of support for greyhound racing will have a lot to do with the other codes heavily lobbying to keep us down. As they fear the potential of greyhound racing to their own product.

$15m would be a great investment

$11 million over 5 years from 2016/2017 for GWIC from the State Govt as a payment to rejoin the industry after the ban, and Gwic further received some monies from GRNSW because they were doing the job before GWIC arrived.

Youre right, its probably costing the industry easily $15 million per year as opposed to the measly $2.75 million per year the government originally provided in the first instance. So it must have come from GRNSW a massive cost to the industry! The government wanted us to fall over after the five years as they deliberately under-funded us.

Sandro,
How much is the government giving us now? I dont think its $15 million a year.. but Im happy to be proven wrong.
