I have been advocating a Juvenile or Grade 6 - perhaps up to 4 wins category (call it what you may), within the NSW grading system for years!
You complete surveys, send emails, make submissions but every request seems to fall on deaf ears, even when you do think you're getting through to someone who might be able to effect "change" you never ever seem to hear back from them.
Unfortunately it isnt more grades required , there is 5 grades now with only 3 being used 1. 5 grade 2. 4/5th grade 3. 1-4 or non grade
There isnt enough runners to put on a grade 2 and a grade 3 and a grade 4 per meet , so they block nom so a race is on
They need to lower the nom count from 6 to 4 and 5 and as I said earlier , for min or 1-4 wins it has to be on prize money earnt , there is no fairer or equal way
It blocks the elite runners in a flawed current system but at the same time it includes seasoned dogs who have only placed money earnt but lack the wins or ability which would effectively keep them in a 1-4K prize money earnt category
Pretty simple

If Breeder bonuses aren't introduced ASAP in NSW numbers will continue to decline !

Nathan,
We both seem to be in agreement change is needed, and whilst there will never be a system that pleases 100% of trainers/owners your proposed system could definitely work and in theory be far fairer. Obviously some anomolies would occur, but they would be probably far fewer than what we now see on a daily basis with the way the current system is.
Where I mentioned a Juvenile or a Grade 6 being introduced, it would not necessarily be the case, all it would take is the 5th Grade category to be ammended/restricted in some way e.g. only dogs up to 3 or perhaps 4 wins, past that you become a 4th Grade and or higher, but cannot drop back into 5th Grade.
Irrespective, as said, in my opinion something definitely needs to be done.

Looks like the N.S.W. GBOTA are prepared to burn money on a lost cause "UNBELIEVABLE"
What about Appin Straight Track that sits on a Mountain in South West Sydney and can't possibly flood 400k spent to get Appin up and going as a Race venue makes a lot more sense than spending 400k on a lost cause that is Lismore Track !

Lismore should have been shut 15yrs ago It's a waist of money getting put back into it every flood Money best spent elsewhere

The picture of the Track says it all ! 80% of it surrounded by a River that floods, wake up N.S.W. GBOTA and spend the money appropriately !

Why do we insist on keeping tracks that are built on flood plains, swamps, in showgrounds, on leased ground etc? It doesn't make financial sense at all.

I hope GRNSW isnt considering bailing them out again! Why should the Government as well? Why should more of our monies go towards bailing out a multi million dollar association? GRNSW and NSW Government funding is finite

The best option imo is the option that does not include the N.S.W. GBOTA, the industry needs them gone ASAP ! The GBOTA should have purchased the El Caballo Blanco property for a Song when they had the opportunity years ago, a "MONUMENTAL MISTAKE" made by an organisation run by a team of GERIATRICS !

Has anyone looked at the land where the 2000 equestrian Olympic games were held at Horsley Park it has excess from the M7 and there is that much land in there i think Blacktown Council run it .

Pretty sure that is Fairfield Council land where the Equestrian Centre is
Where you are thinking which is an extremely good site, is the flat land at Eastern Creek near the Great Western Highway across from the Zoo or closer to Western Sydney Wanderers complex. I am reasonably sure that Blacktown Council have sway over that area.
Don't quote me on it, but I believe all that land can be zoned community recreational and thus greyhound racing could fit into that category

Sandro I do not think they are trying to hard one thing i know is we should keep the G.B.O.T.A right out of it , because they will never find anything .

Not sure what the issues are with Appin apart from the asbestos -ridden grandstand but they could easily bulldoze that, clean the site, then where the carpark was, employ the earthworks to level out properly and build a very good one turn and 2 turn track
Where the current grandstand sits a dual grandstand as per Yamanto could be built to service both tracks and the raceday kennels could sit in a sub floor under the grandstand - great for hot days and easy access to all 3 tracks
Up the top of the hill where the old kennels could house the new car park and also nearby slipping tracks and a bullring could be installed for educational purposes
It doesn't sound that hard and maybe easier said than done, but with a payout to get out of WP I can't see how funding would be an issue.
However, there may be more than a few internal political issues involved in this that we aren't aware of but zoning shouldn't be one of them

The N.S.W. GBOTA have no plans for Appin, they would rather burn money on the floodbound Lismore Track !
They couldn't run a chook raffle !

Hi Sandro,
If the lease is not broken, there will be no payout.
I don't think Appin will be converted to other types of tracks and though I am only speculating, I believe the land will be sold to property developers.
Like Mark wrote, El Caballo Blanco was a `once in a life time' opportunity that was missed.

You could well be right that it could be sold. But they just missed the property boom.
Cash rich developers will only pay a bargain basement price now to land bank the site.
Best bet is that it is already owned, negotiate to get out of the lease FFS, they want us out of there 7 years ago, make them pay for it now , have a farewell and say good bye and develop Appin to the status of how it should be

The N.S.W. GBOTA is not the remedy needed now or into the future ! They have had the opportunity to progress the industry and its participants over many years but have failed dismally !
Ray Hadley Hit List - 1 GWIC
The NSW GBOTA - 2 should be added ASAP !
The N.S.W. Greyhound Industry will never reach its full potential whilst the above organisations are in play !

Ive been watching some of the tennis and even though I knew, it still dawned on me that tennis around the world is played on different surfaces, especially grand slam tournaments. Generally, we have surprise winners because they are suited by the surfaces they prefer. My point is, its the same with surfaces for greyhounds, as well as design of tracks.
We must ensure that we give our greyhounds the best chance of performing on suitable tracks and distances. We have to provide suitable programming of races so that they can be competitive with a suitable number of races in regions.

The N.S.W. GBOTA purchased the land at Appin in 1969 and the Track opened in 1975. Regardless of if and when it may be sold the land is worth a MOTTZA some 53 yrs later !

Of course its worth more than it was 53 years ago, thats a given, but they will get less for it than they could have got for it a year ago
My theory is that you can't really replace that magnitude of land close to Sydney and get the zoning for a greyhound track
That land would already have existing use rights
I am saying they should develop it with the funds to exit the Wentworth Park lease and possibly a development grant from the NSW Government/GRNSW
Are you saying they shouldn't develop it, or should they sell it and look for a handout of land from the Government?
