For the past few years I have been trying desperately to get Greyhound Data to make sure Group racing in Australia is recognised when looking up a dog's pedigree. Normally, whoever inputs the race results makes them a SPECIAL EVENT. This does not give we Data users the right level of race description ... making sure those races as Group 1, 2 or 3.
I'll give one recent example.
https:/ CLICK HERE You will see in the dog's details under his name, he is the winner of the recent Group 3 Bob Payne Sprint. This is something I endeavour input into the pedigree page of every Group finalist.
BUT, if you then look down at the list of 16 offspring of the dam Lektra Fire, you will see Lektra Lad does NOT have beside his name the fact he is a Group 3 performer. THIS is a VERY important aspect being let down on the Data website.
I have constantly approached Data about this. Often the race is changed from SPECIAL EVENT to whatever Group class the race is, but often it is not. I have even offered to make these changes myself for the sake of accuracy on the Data website, only to have my request ignored.
This is an important aspect. The fact Lektra Lad is not a Group 3 performer not only lifts his standings, but the standing of his damline.
There are NUMEROUS examples of this happening.
Data ... this is the most fabulous website for we greyhound fanatics and invaluable to so, so many of us. Let's get this fixed.

We have emailed about this subject for some time and still it has not been attended to. Yes, they are special events, but so, so many of them are NOT given their due credit as Group 1, 2 or 3 ... as I have shown you so often in the past. Simply calling them a special event means Group 1, 2 and 3 are all lumped together under the same banner. This is not correct. A Group 1 race is certainly "more" of a special event, than a Group 2 which is certainly more of a special event than a Group 3. And, ALL of those Group races deserve to be given their right credit ... not just lumped together as is done now.
It is a glaring aspect of these races. They are only given their Group status when I fill out an error for those races. I appreciate those at Data then "generally" fix the anomaly.
I wish Tony Gallagher would take this in hand and get it fixed once and for all. As I have said so often, I am very happy to undertake this but need to be given the opportunity. I've been part of the updating of Data for decades, as can be seen by the fact I have added more than 2000 dogs and almost 10,000 races to the site.

Is Group racing an Australian only system?

No, in the UK, they have Category 1,2 & 3. Ireland have Classics.
Agree, its something I also make mention to Team members when I see errors. They usually correct it.

There is an assumption here that all races are included in a dog's GD history. This is not so as often the GD history is missing the odd run - compare the numbers on Vic or NSW publications with GD, for example.
I love what GD does in general but this has long been a shortcoming, presumably due to volunteer contributions. I have mentioned this to Tony years ago.

On a more broader point, the group racing system and categorisation is horribly broken and needs to brought into the 21st century

Our race results come direct from the GRV as does the race names. David we have taken onboard your offer to correct these but this is not as simply as it sounds. GD has been built in a way that it is hard to give access to parts of the admin section and not all.
Over the last 8 months GD under went a massive update, its first for 21 years, this tied up our IT. We are still fixing different parts of the website which are not working correctly. Once this has been achieved we will move on to doing some of the fine tuning which is being mentioned.
