Back in the day a length used to be calculated as .0666 (which Graham mentioned, and I rightly or wrongly still use), however, going off current results/margins/times (NSW - thedogs site), it would appear that .07+ is closer to the figure.

Thanks David the other WAYNE just loves to argue the point and is always right so I would take his knowledge with a grain of salt. JMO

for sure use it as a rough measurement, also if you say that then half a sec is 7.5lens not 8 lens.

so if you start off by saying:
8 lens is .5 (half a sec)
4 lens is .25
2 lens is .13(rounded off from .125)
1 len is .06

therefore 1.5 lens is between .09 & .10 (not quite .10) so to say "1.5 lengths x 10 = 15 lengths " is not quite mathematically correct :)

So 1 length is .066666????
You are very hypocritical.

David, looking at it holistically in that they run near enuf to 16 lens per sec(not almost per sec), therefore they run:

8 lens in .5 (half a sec)
4 lens in .25
2 lens in .13(rounded off from .125)
1 len in .06

surely

btw that is not what Graham said
this is what he said :

After the first good nights sleep in ages after writing off the good wife's car on a wombat, I got to thinking my data was from over 5 yrs ago when the lure was 2 dogs off the rail here in Vic.

Now with the strenuous objections to a len being 0.06, it appears that the speed of dogs may have altered in the last 5 yrs with the lure arm being further out and thinking about where the lure arms are in Ireland etc., well there's no doubt this may be effecting the speed of dogs these days.

So my sincerest apologies go to:
Steven John Lloyd who may well be correct;
Mark Staines
Mark Donohue &
David Deguara

Can someone pls point out to you know who that there is a huge difference between 1 len being equal to 0.066666 and 1 len being equal to 0.666666 (what he originally stated) as I fear he may collect 1K on the punt when he shld've collected 10K if he hasn't already. There is importance in where that decimal point is placed but we all know percentages aren't your strong suit.

And maths is my strong point champ!

If a length and a half = 1 tenth then 1 length is abees off .0666 repeated when I went to school don't know about you but I'll accept your apology.

This post is going no where
Lets all be honest slow maturing pups are normally just slow either at break-in or 3-4 yr old
It dont mater how far they beat
Slow pups are slow pups n the older some get they just get slower
It cost the same amount to feed n rare n train a slow pup as it does a fast one
Good trainers don't want or need slow maturing pups or dogs
It bum trainers who persevere with them slow pups because they don't have fast ones

Funnily enough we may have solved the problem with slow maturing pups. They run a length in 0.08, a handy one runs a length in .0666 and the ones worth keeping run it in .06.

Like Wayne said, keeping a "late maturing pup" is just another dog bum excuse to give a slug too many chances.
